Although HK™ is the modality of mind-body work I practice, there are many others out there. In fact, many practitioners incorporate more than one holistic wellness practice into a session. I have experienced several different modalities (and have plans to try others) and would love to share my experiences with you. Below is more information on Polarity Therapy, my practitioner, and a recap of what my session with her was like. At the end of this article I'll give my overall rating of Polarity Therapy for it's ability to help inspire creativity. WHAT IS POLARITY THERAPY?According to the American Polarity Therapy Association, “Polarity Therapy is a unique wellness practice that involves touch. It was developed by Dr. Randolph Stone, (1889-1981), an Osteopathic physician and Chiropractor with a passion for natural healing. Unlike massage or physical therapy, whose purpose is relaxation, or re-educating the body to align with gravity, the purpose of Polarity Therapy is personal transformation. It is realigning the body to be in harmony with the soul.” THE POLARITY PRACTITIONERMost recently, I had a session with Patricia Traina (RN, MS), owner of Many Light Hands, clinical holistic nurse specialist, and coordinator at one of the locations where I see clients, SkyBaby Studio in Cold Spring, NY. Patricia is trained in Polarity Therapy. I was interested in experiencing this modality, which I learned a little about during my apprenticeship with Madeline Drabkowski (Polarity is the first healing modality Madeline practiced and she was actually one of the first certified teachers in the US). Anyway, I’d always gone to Madeline for Health Kinesiology (with just a little polarity therapy she’d add to a session from time to time) and was curious to experience Polarity with another practitioner. THE POLARITY SESSIONMuch like in a massage therapy session or HK™ session, I was asked to lay on a massage table but with my eyes closed. The room was kept quiet with no overhead lights. Patricia explained at the outset that she would be adding hand and foot massage to the traditional Polarity work. She also asked if I’d like an eye shield or aromatherapy during the session. I declined both, preferring to keep this session as purely “Polarity” related as possible. Note: Patricia also explained that she typically incorporates Reiki and Therapeutic Touch into her sessions. I was ok with use of Therapeutic Touch to clear my aura, but asked her to refrain from utilizing Reiki due to my personal energy sensitivity and beliefs about the practice. She had no issue with adjusting the session accordingly. It’s important to always have a conversation with your practitioner to understand exactly what their practice incorporates and to be sure that it’s something you’re comfortable with. Patricia began by gently holding my head in both her hands then rotating it from side to side, asking me to relax and let her do all the “work”. Sounded good to me! As the session progressed, she moved down my body, gently adjusting my shoulders, arms (at the elbow), hips, and ankles. She then moved on to a gentle foot and hand massage. THE OUTCOME OF MY POLARITY SESSIONAlthough not the primary objective of Polarity Therapy, I did feel that overall, the session was very relaxing. Patricia asked at the end if I’d have any revelations and I did have a very specific issue come to mind that I’d been struggling with which seemed to resolve itself during the session. She advised me to drink lots of water and take it easy for a day or so to better promote the healing energy work. This last bit is typical advice after any mind-body-energy session. As an energy worker, it’s important to get your own tune-ups from time to time to keep your own core energy strong and serve your clients as well as possible. I felt that this Polarity session did just that for me. WILL POLARITY THERAPY HELP INSPIRE CREATIVITY?Mind-body-spirit practices can be very beneficial in helping to inspire creativity. Although not as readily accessible as some other natural wellness techniques (like herbal remedies or essential oils), they do have their place in restoring the calm invigorated state needed for creativity. How does Polarity Therapy rate for inspiring creativity? ACCESSIBILITY: 1.O - not readily available, I know of very few polarity practitioners in my area AFFORDABILITY: 3,0 - average session cost between $100-199 SIMPLICITY: 1.0 - Polarity requires a visit to a well practiced expert INSPIRING: 5.0 - helped me deal with some personal struggles which frees up room to be creative CALMING: 5.0 - the session I had with Patricia was very calming, even though this is not the primary objective of Polarity in general ENERGIZING: 5.0 - re-alignment with your soul's purpose is definitely an energizing experience and I felt ready to bring it at my next client's HK™ session Overall Score: 3.3/5.0 FINAL IMPRESSIONSIf you're lucky enough to have a practitioner in your area, I'd recommend giving Polarity a try. It seems especially geared toward helping you align with your creative purpose and also remove some blocks that may be holding you back.
